![]() The severe pollution of the shallow seas around Sri Lanka, particularly in urban areas, is an alarming issue. It is unfortunate that most Sri Lankans have little awareness about the extent of this problem. Our coastal regions are critical for biodiversity, marine life, and economic activities such as tourism and fisheries, yet they are being recklessly degraded by plastic waste, industrial runoff, and human negligence. While we aim to make Sri Lanka a global tourism hotspot, we overlook the fundamental responsibility of safeguarding our marine environment. Proper waste disposal, community-driven conservation efforts, and stricter regulations are essential to curb the damage. If immediate action is not taken, the consequences will be irreversible, affecting livelihoods, ecosystems, and our nation's future. On 27/04/2025, the initial program for cleaning the shallow sea at Rumassala, Galle, was jointly organized by the Boralesgamuwa Business Circle Lions Club and the Boralesgamuwa Metro |
