Road Development Project for Galle Haupe Kanishka Vidyalaya

A 300-meter road leading to Galle Haupe Kanishka Vidyalaya is set for complete development, enhancing access for students and staff. Valued at LKR 1.5 million, this project aims to improve the local infrastructure. Key figures in this initiative include Lion A.V. Jayathissa, Governor Lion Prasad Gamage, Region 8 Chairperson Lion Nishantha Rumesh Gamage, Region 8 Zone 2 Chairperson Lion Raveendra Prasad, Cabinet Officer Lion Vipul Jayarathne, and Ladies' Committee Member Lion Sagarika Jayarathne. Support also came from Lions Club of Galle Royality President Amaradiwakara Liyanarachchi and members Lion Samantha Kariyawasam, Lion Chandima Hewawithana, and Lion Manjula Ruwanmali. Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya President Lion Uditha Malawara Arachchi and Region 8 Treasurer Lion Jayanthi Haputhanthri contributed as well. This project significantly enhances educational access and community infrastructure.

Diriya Liya (day 3): Extending Additional Support to Women Entrepreneurs

The third phase of the "Diriya Liya" initiative focused on providing financial guidance to 30 women selected from a broader group of entrepreneurs. These women, engaged in sewing and textile-based production, received targeted advice and support to help them manage their businesses more effectively. The event included a special workshop on business operations and enhancing productivity in the garment sector, conducted by Region 8 Zone 2 Chairperson Lion Raveendra Prasad and Legends Lion Club President Lion Methsiri De Silva. Their expertise and insights offered valuable information to help the participants optimize their production processes and grow their ventures. This session forms part of the ongoing "Diriya Liya" initiative, aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools to achieve financial independence and business success.

An awareness program on productivity enhancement was conducted as part of "Diriya Liya" Day 2, with a focus on empowering women entrepreneurs. The event, which involved 34 new members of the Women Empowerment Program, aimed at providing knowledge and strategies for increasing business efficiency and success. The session was graced by several distinguished Lions, including Legends Lion Club President Lion Methsiri De Silva, Cabinet Officer Lion Vipul Jayarathne, Region 8 Zone 2 Chairperson Lion Raveendra Prasad, Lion Chaminda Godakandage, and Lion Chandima Hewawithana. These leaders played a key role in educating and motivating the participants, offering guidance on practical steps to boost productivity in their respective ventures. The program contributed significantly to equipping the women with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance their productivity, further solidifying the club's ongoing efforts to empower women through the "Diriya Liya" initiative.

Subhahawitha Geethaye Mehewara youth empowerment program

On August 14, the Galle Labuduwa Advanced Technological Institute hosted "Subhahawitha Geethaye Mehewara," an event focused on promoting positive music enjoyment alongside attitude and skill development. The initiative aimed to engage 453 students from the institute, educating them on the benefits and joys of music. The project was led by a dedicated team of Lions, including Lion Neranjala Jayawardhene, Lion Ranjith Jayathilaka, Lion Dr. Methisiri de Silva, Lion Swarnamala Jayathilaka, Lion Harshani Sirimanna, and Lion Karunadasa Weerarathne. We were honored to welcome Lion Nishantha Romesh Gamage, the Region 8 Chairman, as a special guest. To encourage participation, each student received a packet of milk, with a total expenditure of LKR 49,500 for the event. This initiative, sponsored by Lion Anosha Niranjala Jayawardhene, highlights the Lions Club’s commitment to uplifting the community through music and education.

On August 3, 2024, the "Diriya Liya" initiative was launched to provide financial assistance through the MAF scheme to 53 women entrepreneurs. This program aims to empower women by supporting their business ventures, fostering growth, and ensuring sustainable development. The event saw the participation of several distinguished guests, including Region 8 Chairman Lion Nishantha Rumesh Gamage, Cabinet Officer Lion Vipul Jayarathne, Legends Lion Club Past President Sinha Ranjith Jayathilake, Legends Lion Club President Lion Methsiri De Silva, and Lion Secretary Manjula Kumari Kaluarachchi. The launch of "Diriya Liya" marks an important step in strengthening the local economy and supporting women in business, offering them a platform for success through financial assistance and mentorship.
