P. Sugiethma Jayathilaka whose father lost few years ago, is a student of Horana Taxila College, She qualified for the AL last year and requested financial assistance for her studies . We communicated with Mr Ruchira Bandara and he agreed to give his hands to that student and since December 2024 he injected funds to Sugithma's mothers account through our project account. (Confirmation letter of the transaction is enclosed)

A Ray of Hope: Legends Lions Club Extends Support to a Destitute Mother of Two

On February 25th, at the residence of Lion Methsiri De Silva, the Galle Legends Lions Club came together in a heartfelt act of generosity to support a destitute mother of two. Answering a request made through the club’s president, a relief package worth LKR 5,415, inclusive of essential food and supplies, was donated to provide much-needed assistance. The mother, facing extreme hardship without a source of income, was granted this aid to help sustain herself and her children. The initiative was carried out with the participation of club members, including Treasurer Lion Chaminda Godakandage, Lion Suranga Rajamanthri, and Lion Methsiri De Silva. The funds collected were rightfully allocated with gratitude extended to all contributors who made this noble effort possible.

Leadership and Motivation Workshop for O/L and A/L Students

A leadership and motivation workshop for O/L and A/L students was successfully held on February 19, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Batemulla National College, Imaduwa, Galle. Organized under the leadership of Lion Ranjith Jayathileke of the Legends Lions Club, the event engaged 145 students and the academic staff. An expert speaker conducted an interactive session, inspiring students to develop leadership qualities and personal growth. The event also recognized the contributions of students and teachers, fostering a deeper understanding of leadership values. As part of the program, milk packets and chocolates were distributed to the students, with a total expenditure of LKR 20,500. Through Lionism’s vision, the workshop empowered students and educators, encouraging them to embrace leadership and motivation at the highest level.

The session, moderated by the renowned Professor Praneeth Abeysundara, focused on youth empowerment, developing leadership skills and motivating students to take charge of their future. With the support of the principal and staff, this initiative aims to equip young minds with confidence, critical thinking and a sense of responsibility. The program was witnessed by group of parents as well.

Indigenous Herb Plantation Project On January 1, 2025, Horana Metro conducted a local herb planting project at the herbal garden located at the Dekanduwala Bhikshuni Aranya Senasana premises. The effort focused on conserving endangered indigenous plants that are essential for Ayurvedic treatments. Participants, especially the younger generation, were encouraged to identify and study these plants, thereby creating greater awareness and commitment to preserving and promoting Ayurvedic medicine in the country.
