Necerssity - Women Empowerment - Organising Training

Lion Nellie Gajanayeke as the project chairperson fully funded a great training programme to rural ladies. Our club mission was to train the ladies to prepare a jam and a cordial drink for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil festive season. We asked them not to buy gifts from market when visiting the relatives and friends but to do a bottle of Jam / cordial as the gift when visiting. We taught them how to market their product too. Recourse person Mrs Dammika Wakishta conducted a very successful project and we had 25 participants for the food processing programme and 5 Lions also were presented at the event.

The three main donors Dr Nage Nagendran from USA, Chairman Mr Ranjan from Vanni Hope Australia, and Lion Janaka from Volunteer Sri Lanka visited the centre on 17th as a observation visit. Hospital Director Dr Danga and the deputy director Dr Dinuka joined for discussions. From Lions club of Galupura Central Lion Jayamini, Lion Thanuja, Lion Nellie, Lion Dimuthu, Lion Dr Damayanthi participated the project. All children, parents and staff (50 in number) were treated with cake and a pack of milk. Visitors were served the same with a savory snack and a tea. The donors were offered lunch at Pizza Den under Lion Thanuja's sponsorship

Satisfaction - Cataract surgery programme - provision of lenses

12 cataract operations were completed at the Ampara General hospital under the guidance of Hospital Director Dr Ranga. Donation of all lenses were arranged through Sai Foundation. The full surgery and lens cost Rs 100,000 per person. Dr Ranag arranged food and lodging for 13 patients at hospital under another sponsor. The patients taken from Galupura Central were treated very well by the hospital authorities.

13 very needy patients who were in list for cataract operation who couldn't afford cataract surgery were taken to Ampara hospital under sponsorship for surgery by the hospital director Dr Ranga Chandresena was arranged by Lion Thanuja. All patients were warmly welcomed by the hospital staff, they were registered for the admission, and all meals as well as accommodation was provided by the hospital from 31st December to 6th January. 12 patience were successfully faced the surgery and one was referred to special care and was referred to Eye surgeon Dr Lalitha at Karapitiya. Lions Club of Galupura central under the project coordinator / fully funded sponsor Lion Nellie and Lion Wasantha Gajanayeke we planted 64 coconut trees in a land belongs to Baddegama police station. Protocol officer Lion Jayamini, Lion Wasantha, Lion Nellie, Lion Ruwan, Dimuthu, Lion Thanuja, and Lions from Baddegama club participated the event. All police officers took part at the event and they will be maintaining the planted field. This will be followed up by our lions club time to time.
