On December 26, the Lions Club of Akmeemana Sentinels held a meaningful Tsunami Remembrance Program near the harbor in Galle, Magalle, from 4:30 PM to 6:40 PM. This event paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the tsunami through acts of compassion and cultural significance. A highlight of the program was the lighting and floating of bucket lamps on the sea, inspired by Japanese traditions, symbolizing hope and peace for the departed souls. The event was further enriched by the participation of Asami Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Galle Japan Sama Viharaya, along with three other resident monks. Their presence and blessings brought spiritual significance to this solemn occasion. This program exemplified unity, healing, and remembrance, reflecting the Lions' commitment to honoring the past while inspiring resilience for the future. On December 26, a special wheelchair donation program was held at the Galle Kachchuwatta Temple from 6:30 to 7:00 PM. Organized under the leadership of Project Chairperson Lion Methsiri De Silva, the event exemplified compassion and support for the community. The wheelchair, donated by Lion Jagath Weerasinghe, was presented to Mr. P. Godakanda of Galle Bangaaliyadda, a resident receiving treatment at home. The donation was facilitated by his daughter and family representative, with assistance from Lion Prasad Gamage and First Lion Lady Lion Nimna, who extended their participation to ensure the success of this meaningful gesture. This initiative highlighted the Lions' unwavering commitment to helping those in need, fostering hope and care in the community.

20th Anniversary Tsunami Remembrance Program: Honoring Lives and Spreading Compassion

On the night of December 26, a heartfelt memorial program was held at the Galle Kachchuwatta Deepaduththarama Viharaya to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tsunami tragedy. Led by Matara Nandaaloka Thero, the event included Buddhist rituals and acts of merit to honor the lives lost and offer blessings for their spiritual peace. The program was attended by 32 Lions, including Lion Prasad Gamage, Chief Organizer Lion Premajayantha Dissanayake, First Lion Lady Lion Nimna, District 8 Lion Governor Lion Jagath Weerasinghe, Region 8 Chairperson Lion Nishantha Romesh, Zone 1 Chairperson Lion Upul Chandrasekara, Zone 2 Chairperson Lion Raweendra, and Cabinet Officers Lion Wipul Jayaratne and Lion Jayamini Seniwirathne. In addition, 87 family members and loved ones of the tsunami victims participated in this solemn occasion, making it a deeply meaningful event of remembrance, compassion, and unity.
